What Plumbing Is Found in Residential Houses?

What Are the Different Kinds of Plumbing That a Plumbing Contractor Works On?

Residential houses are built in so many shapes, sizes, and designs that make it impossible to categorize all of them. The plumbing in them, however, is easier to break down. In fact, there are actually to date only 2 kinds of residential plumbing. Series and branched plumbing will both carry water to sinks, toilets, and showers, however, in different ways. Each comes with its own advantages and disadvantages for every plumbing contractor, however, both can be tested easily in order to determine what type is in a home.

The series type is considered the simplest method in homes that have with multiple fixtures. With this system, cold water is taken from a ground supply and hot water comes from a hot water heater and both are carried through separate pipes, however, travel side-by-side. These pipes run cold and hot water to fixtures, and the same pipes will go to the next fixture, and so on and so forth.

The simplicity of this makes it much easier to fix for a plumber, due to the fact detecting issues, such as leaks, is a process of elimination as all the water lines are connected. The biggest disadvantage is the time it takes for the furthest fixture to receive its water.

A branched residential system can come in different designs, however, they all share a similarity with regards to the hot and cold pipes going in different directions. A good example of this is in a home where the hot and cold come from the same place, however, split off to create a series for the first floor and then go in another direction to create a separate branch for the upstairs fixtures. This method is said to be more efficient, however, it also makes repairs more complicated for plumbers.
